We only had two nights to spend in Boston, which wasn’t nearly enough. However, in that short time, both our dreams were fulfilled. Nick got to see a game in Fenway Park, and I got to drink as many gimlets as my little heart desired.

Best of all, I got to see some of my favorite folks in the world.

hometown heroes

After a night out that started at City Table (cocktails), followed by Giacomo’s (Italian), The Bee Hive (jazz) and Red Lantern (lounge/Asian), we headed back to our hotel to sleep it off.

Speaking of hotels – I have to say I adored the Lenox. The rooms were small and not terribly flash, but they were clean and done beautifully with decor from another era.  The service was impeccable and the lobby is everything a hotel lobby should be – bustling, elegant, doormen in smart uniforms, a fireplace. And, after getting myself  removed from  their lobby so many times in college after straggling out of City Bar at 2am, it was gratifying to sit there as someone who actually had business there.

The next morning we headed to Fenway for a tour of the park before the game started at 7pm.

excited on the inside

The tour was really cool – as someone who doesn’t harbour a compulsive baseball obsession like SOME people… it was really interesting and enjoyable. Guess who else liked it?

The second night out after the game saw us pub crawling it through the Back Bay. I’m not going to go into details –  at one point we were on the dance floor at Daisy’s – that should tell you all you need to know about that.

The next morning we dragged ourselves out of bed and downstairs to check out, only to realise we were stuck directly in the middle of the Bruin’s victory parade path. Not kidding, like, DIRECTLY.

See the 'The Le' in the top right? That was our hotel.

Know what doesn’t go well with a hangover? HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of obnoxious college kids, good and liquored up by 11am. I’m complaining, but secretly I’m a little bit proud – in what other city besides Boston?
